オランダ・アムステルダムを拠点にエレクトロニックミュージックを手がけるレーベル「Field Records」とコラボレーションした特別なラジオプログラム。
テーマとなる作品、「Waterworks」は、明治時代に日本各地で開発されたオランダの水利技術を、テキスト・映像・サウンドを通じて紹介する、日蘭の文化交流の歴史を現在に顕在化させる共同プロジェクト。今回、2025年4月13日から5月4日まで、大阪・関西万博のオランダ館で発表される同プロジェクトのインスタレーション展示を記念して、Field Recordsからリリースされた、Chihei Hatakeyama・SUGAI KEN・Yui Onoderaによる日本各地をテーマにしたアルバム3部作を一挙配信します。
4月18日(金)20:00から、2時間にわたり配信します。
なお、「Waterworks」のインスタレーションは、デジタルバージョンも下記にて公開されてます。
A special radio program in collaboration with Field Records, an electronic music label based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
The featured project, Waterworks, is a collaborative initiative that revisits the history of Dutch-Japanese cultural exchange by introducing Dutch water engineering projects developed across Japan during the Meiji era through text, visuals, and sound.
In celebration of its installation exhibition at the Netherlands Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, running from April 13 to May 4, we will broadcast the complete trilogy of albums released by Field Records, featuring works by Chihei Hatakeyama, SUGAI KEN, and Yui Onodera—each inspired by different historical waterworks sites across Japan.
The program is broadcast on Friday, April 11 at 8:00 p.m. for two hours.

Hachirōgata Lake / Chihei Hatakeyama
広大なアンビエンスと環境音を融合させ、日本とオランダが共有する水管理の歴史を探求する。テーマとなる八郎潟は、戦後オランダ人技師の協力を得て干拓され、新たな生態系が形成された。排水路、尾形橋、草原保護区など、湖周辺の特定の場所でフィールド・レコーディングを行い、水中の音と調和する独自のサウンドを構築している。

Matching expansive ambience with environmental sound, this work explores the shared history of water management between Japan and the Netherlands. The focus is on Hachirōgata Lake, which was reclaimed with the help of Dutch engineers after World War II, leading to the formation of a new ecosystem.Field recordings were conducted at specific locations around the lake, including drainage channels, the Ogata Bridge, and grassland conservation reserves. These recordings were then crafted into a unique soundscape that harmonizes with the aquatic environment, reflecting both the historical transformation of Hachirōgata and the rich sonic textures inspired by its landscape.

Tone River / SUGAI KEN
日本とオランダの水管理の歴史をテーマに、1年間の制作を経て完成。江戸時代、日本はオランダ人技師の協力のもと、大規模な水利プロジェクトが進められた。その代表例のひとつが、本州を横断する全長322kmの利根川である。今回、利根川の3つの地点で環境音を録音し、これらの素材を独自の技法で組み合わせ、川の流れと風景の変化を音で表現した。厳密なコンセプトを持ちながらも自由な響きを内包し、自然音と人工音が交錯する独特のサウンドスケープを生み出している。

Created through a year of dedicated work, this album explores the history of water management shared between Japan and the Netherlands. During the Edo period, large-scale water projects were undertaken in Japan with the cooperation of Dutch engineers, one of the most notable being the 322-kilometer Tone River, which stretches across Honshu.For this project, recordings were made at three locations along the river, capturing environmental sounds that were then intricately woven together using unique production techniques. The result is a sonic expression of the river’s shifting landscapes and flow. While conceptually precise, the album retains a sense of freedom, creating a distinctive soundscape where natural and synthetic elements seamlessly intertwine.

Kiso Three Rivers / Yui Onodera
「Waterworks」シリーズ第3弾として、Yui Onoderaが木曽三川の水利工学をテーマに制作。19世紀後半、日本はオランダ人技師ヨハネス・デ・ライケと協力し、木曽川・長良川・揖斐川の流れを調整し、洪水対策を行った。本作では、その歴史を背景に、フィールドレコーディングと伝統楽器を繊細に融合し、表現した。A面では鐘やギターの音が織りなす精巧なミニチュアを展開し、B面では水音のサンプリングとミニマルなシンセが静かに響く。

Yui Onodera contributes the third installment of Field Records’ “Waterworks” series, focusing on the hydro-engineering of Japan’s Kiso Three Rivers. In the late 19th century, Japanese authorities collaborated with Dutch engineer Johannis de Rijke to regulate the flow of the Kiso, Nagara, and Ibi rivers, implementing extensive flood control measures.Rooted in this historical context, Onodera delicately merges field recordings with traditional instruments, crafting a refined sonic landscape. The A side presents intricately sculpted miniatures interwoven with bell tones and treated guitar textures, while the B side unfolds in a more minimalistic form, emphasizing sampled water sounds subtly accented by restrained synthesis.
